Max Zeckau

Max Zeckau was born in 1974 and grew up in Bavaria. He studied Photography in Halle/Saale and Zurich, including two months at the Art Academy of Charkiv, Ukraine.

The featured series gives a view on the surface of Tibet between the fulfillment of touristic expectations and everyday life. It does not want to discuss romantic ideas and exotic imaginations nor take up political position, but tries to focus on the artificial aspects of travelling.

The photographs were taken in autumn 2006, on the way from Kunming to Xian and Beijing via Lhasa by bus and train. Nearly all the pictured Potalas (Ancient Palace of the Dalai Lamas) were found in Lhasa.
