Britta Pichler was born in 1975 in Vienna, grew up in North Rhine-Westphalia, and now lives in Berlin. She works as a freelance-photographer in the field of eco-trade and is interested in worldwide fair-trade agriculture structures. She discovers them by traveling on her bicycle… documenting them with a camera. The featured entertainment park located on the river Spree – also known as “Cultural Park Plänterwald” – was opened in 1969 and was the only one of its kind in the GDR. After the German reunification the park fell in the hands of Norbert Witte who gradually mismanaged it. 2001 he left to Peru and after a while returned to Germany attempting to smuggle 150 kg of cocaine. In 2002 the park was declared insolvent with debts over 11 million Euro. In 2006 a group of permaculture students started a project to revive this area: alternative housing and culture or energy resourcing are just a few of many ideas the group is working on. For one year Britta Pichler was participating in this attempt to save the culture-park. Her photo-documentation was made in summer 2008.
